FAQ
FUE -Follicular Unit Extraction- is the method of extracting naturally occurring follicular units composed of one to five hairs from the scalp or other parts of the body to be transplanted later on into the thinning or balding areas. This extraction is performed with an excision tool called a punch. Being the most commonly used tool for the FUE technique, motorized punch can also be done using a manual punch handle.
The occipital and parietal areas where the grafts are taken from what is called the safe donor area, in which the follicular units are not affected by androgenic alopecia (exceptions may apply). Once the follicular unit is extracted, a small scar will form in the area where the extraction is performed. Normally, these scars are not visible when the hair is cut at 5-7 millimeters.
Dr. Dogan Turan performs the consultation, design and the implantation of each and every graft using the implanter pen. He has a dedicated FUE specialist for his surgeries who uses a mixed methodology of manual and micromotor extraction.
Dr. Gokhan Gur performs the consultation, design, extraction of the follicular units (in VIP package only), and channel opening procedures. The graft placement is done by his specialist team.
Each doctor performs a maximum of 2 surgeries per day.
When assessing if a patient is an eligible candidate for a hair transplant operation, there are several factors to be taken into account: patient’s age, hair loss stage, hair loss progression, usage of medication, donor area size and quality, etc. Our medical consultants will guide you through a detailed preoperative estimation process to ensure a unique and personalized assessment to receive the most realistic estimation and achieve the most realistic outcome.
Every patient is different, and depending on the number of grafts to be implanted, on average, it takes around 8 hours for a one-day hair restoration procedure to be performed. Skin conditions and bleeding are other factors affecting the duration of the operation.
7 days before the scheduled operation date, blood thinners, aspirin, sexual enhancement pills like Viagra, Levitra and Cialis, and Minoxidil usage, alcohol intake, and smoking MUST be stopped.
Also, do not dye, cut or shave your hair before the procedure.
It takes 7 days for the grafts to securely anchor to the scalp. Therefore, for the first 7 days, you should be extra careful not to damage the implanted grafts (by hitting or scratching the head). Once all the scabs are gone, you can resume back to your normal life. You will be provided with a detailed list of instructions and guidelines with your aftercare package to keep the recipient area well-maintained and protected to ensure the desired results are achieved.
Also, do not dye, cut or shave your hair before the procedure.
Hair transplant results are considered permanent since the DHT–resistant terminal hairs are used during the restoration process. Having said that, in order to slow down / stabilize hair loss and improve miniaturized and thinning hair, the usage of medication (finasteride and minoxidil) is highly recommended and necessary to maintain the non-transplanted native hair, and extend the positive outcome of a hair transplant procedure.
Also, do not dye, cut or shave your hair before the procedure.
