FUE + Channel Opening

Follicular Unit Extraction by Dr Gur

This modern technique of hair transplantation has been used since 2003. This treatment is more advanced than the previous transplant methods, such as strip harvesting transplantation and FUT.

FUE technique is a method of extracting or “harvesting” follicular units, which contain 1 to 5 hairs, from the donor area. In FUE hair transplants, a specialised extraction instrument is used to make a small circular incision in the skin around a follicular unit, separating it from the surrounding tissue. The unit is extracted directly from the scalp, leaving a small open hole. The Golden Hand Standards are a quality standard practiced by Dr. Gokhan Gur to minimize the possibility of graft damage during hair restoration procedures.

These standards also ensure that the donor area does not have a visible lack of density, stays healthy, and is robust for possible future hair transplant procedures if needed by the patients.

Furthermore, the standards enable a homogeneous extraction from the donor area which results in a natural look in the donor area.

A hair transplant surgery is an ambulatory procedure performed under local anaesthesia. You will be perfectly awake and can talk to the surgeon during the procedure.

The local anaesthetic is injected into the scalp of the donor area and recipient area.

Before the surgery starts, Dr Gur performs a meticulous assessment of the donor area where the overall donor area capacity is established in order to determine the maximum number of grafts that can be safely extracted without provoking any damage to the donor area.

Hair thickness is also measured to choose the right punch size, which may vary from 0.8mm to 1.1mm; however, in the majority of the cases the punches used are 0.8 and 0.9mm.

Dr Gur uses a micromotor punch in all of his extractions. In his more than 20 years of experience, he has gathered such a vast experience which can be resumed by the data below:

  • Our total transection rate is as <little as 5-10 grafts for every 3000 grafts (0.17% – 0.33%), or in other terms this rate is ignorable.

Channel Opening Stage by Dr Gur

The intact (undamaged) grafts collected following the Golden Hand Standards MUST be placed inside the correct-size channels that are the exact fit to the diameters of grafts. This is the number one rule in achieving natural-looking results of a hair transplant operation.

The channel opening in the right angle and depth is a crucial procedure as the channels are considered the incubator area for the grafts, and the survival of the follicular units depends on them.

Therefore, transporting the grafts, which are harvested by using 0.8 and 0.9mm size punch, into the incisions that are smaller than 1mm diameter is the most important aspect of achieving total aesthetic quality in FUE hair transplant operations.

For the hairline and frontal zone, Dr Gur currently uses sapphire blades starting from 0.8mm to 1mm, depending on the hair texture (thickness), graft size, and the classification of grafts (multiple grafts) this blade size may increase to 1.25mm.

The main objective of the Golden Hand Standards is to achieve natural-looking high-quality results.
